Srinagar, Mar 24 (KNO): The Government of India has approved a new Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospital in Ompura, Srinagar, as part of its plan to expand healthcare services under the Employees' State Insurance (ESI) scheme, the Ministry of Labour and Employment said. The announcement was made by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, in response to a question in the Lok Sabha, where the government confirmed the establishment of 105 new ESIC hospitals across various states and Union Territories, including one in Jammu & Kashmir. As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), ESIC hospitals provide affordable medical care to insured workers and their families, covering secondary and tertiary healthcare services. These hospitals play a crucial role in supporting employees working in the organized sector. In addition to expanding healthcare facilities, the government has taken several steps to improve the quality of medical services in ESIC hospitals, including collaboration with Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), increasing benefits for insured persons, and launching an online portal for hassle-free claim submissions—(KNO)
